Nysc chapter

Been trying to delay this gist but ehnnn, not possible, dreamt about my Nysc days again yesterday and i said no way today I must say my experience.

So let’s take it a little back to 2015, got to school for my clearance and Nysc registration , waited for my call up letter, I remember making mouth 😂😂😂😂 saying it’s lagos , no need to check I already know , my dad said it’s lagos. So Ope went n printed for both of us and I was there still making mouth when I saw, Macgregor camp, Afikpo north, Abakaliki, Ebonyi.

Like I didn’t even know that was on the map, or whether it was even existing . I just kept quiet , looked down n asked myself how did it happen. I went home angry because I was so sure it was lagos. So I started looking for people that have been to the camp , stayed there and are going for this batch that am also going for. So I went ton nairaland and I saw a bbm group, I added my self and I started asking questions, what to take, what n what I should know , everything about camp.

So I heard I’ll be up 4:30am, and I asked myself me toyin , 4:30am. 😂 😂 me that 9-10 am still rolling on the bed, I nao realized am facing the war front o, who ever asked me to Grow up o 🙆🏼‍♀️🙆🏼‍♀️🙆🏼‍♀️🙆🏼‍♀️ Kia

As I have never ever been to the east, already people said they eat human being 😭 😭, already I just wanted to sleep and wake up from this dream noni, but it wasn’t a dream this was reality. So I got my ticket and lemme let you know you get to Enugu then travel to Abakaliki because no airport there. So I boarded , landed and thanked God, tried getting other Corper’s to share a cab to town with but everyone was paired , I was really frustrated , truth be told. Finally one family saw the frustration in my eyes and asked me where I was going , I just said to the bus park to get Abakaliki bus, so they offered me a ride. I got to the park and the journey began, just kept asking are we not there, have we gotten there? Soon , soom was the reply. Finally we got to Abakaliki I took a keke chatter, the idiot took me round before he finally said I don’t know where u going , with tears of frustration, I asked a lasma man , the man now said I have to enter another bus , that the camp is in Afikpo not town.

Got to the park luckily for me the bus had all Corper’s heading to my destination . So the journey started , mind you I left a day before . So on getting to macgregor at 7pm, we had to present our call up letter, so we were allowed into the camp, they gave us bed and a room. So we dropped everything, got to the famous mammi market, got bucket and bailer and Food and did necessary photocopy, ate and showered outside and off to bed.

In the morning we were asked to take our luggage’s back to the gate and go there and begin our proper registration. God are you serious I asked, so all of us started the struggle, I just put my box on my head, Becos I don’t know the use of dragging the box on the hill. and please am I not Yoruba? don’t I fetch water? , so no time to form , as I put it omo everyone just saw it was making sense n did it o. Lol 😂 😝 me I nao said in my mind “o so forming don end ” . So we got outside , stayed on the line n started entering one by one again.

Finally we settled got my room and my bed space and my uniform and did all my registration, so my good God put all my friends in the bus with me in the same room. So we did all the necessities and settled down.

Next day the wake up call started , Buh me already ready , in my white white like dove I went to the parade ground, standing like I killed someone’s mother o. Kia I really suffered Infact I saw how beautiful the sun rises o. 😂 😆 thanks to the parade o. So as God helped me again as usual, man o war picked me . I was nao escaping early morning drill and stress although i was working out with them too but it wasn’t all that stressful and serious , we had to sing all the time, tell stories and play.

So after the swear-in ceremony I was back to my parade ground o 🙆🏼‍♀️🙆🏼‍♀️🙆🏼‍♀️🙆🏼‍♀️🙆🏼‍♀️. Buh I enjoyed it all. Camp was fun mehn , mami market was lit, everything was there , it was home away from home mehn. I remember my goons , chichi, Lati, Vicky, precious, Patience , oluchi , Dami , sola , Ado n sada. Wasn’t a dull moment with all of u.

So I was in platoon 10, it was all fun. bonfire night and the competition time, the cultural dance and the debate , you just have to support your platoon. I remember still making mouth again before we were given PPA, thinking my dad had worked it out , but once again I was disgraced . I was posted to Abakaliki. Then I knew it was God. So it was all good , I actually vexed n went home sha Buh I came back. So I stayed at Chichi’s place till I got myself a place.

Abakaliki was fun mehn , like I was happy for the change in environment, I didn’t regret staying behind , it was affordable , it had good chill out spots . I remember stadiums peppersoup and rice mehn, the sharwama , ot was it Vegas and the bread or the Famous Meat Market that everything was affordable . I did visit there famous rice mill , now the rice is everything, completely rich , guys it’s what they do, they plant there own rice and it’s so rich, there corn, cassava , Infact everything , vegetable, cotton tree , they are so blessed in that land. like the land is so rich and very industrious, very hardworking people and business minded people.

It wasn’t all rosy , I was robbed twice thou, iPad, laptop and phone but still I survived . Special thanks to Research my gee, to the family , Austin, chick, uche, Sammy, Humphrey, Davidson, Reginald and efosa . You all where the real deal. Thanks to Lieutenant Adamu, for all those tombola in the barracks wasn’t a dull time, I won a lot of prices . I can’t ever forget mama Abakaliki, Aunty chi , ebube, lucky, zanda and burskar.

I’ll definitely visit a thousand times mehn. I can’t thank my two bosses enough . Like it was home mehn, I did miss lagos a lot Buh the family and love here was overwhelming.

To Nysc thanks for all the drill and the suffer , I learnt a lot, to Abakaliki I heard you have grown now o, m visiting soon.

Under the sun and inside the rain, youth obey the clarion call 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 I have obeyed mine n it was worth it.
